Swarna Gauri Vrat is an important festival celebrated in Shukla Triteeya of Bhadrapadmaas in southern parts of India. Gauri means the white one. Goddess Parvati who did penance to win the heart of Lord Shiva is called by many names. Gauri is one these names. Swarna Gauri Vrat is celebrated as Hartalika in the northern parts of India. It is a custom to offer worship to the image of Parvati made in clay, silver or gold. An image made of turmeric is also worshipped with Swarna Gauri. Turmeric is called Haridra in Sanskrit. Harit means golden or gold like.
