Lord Shiva is the third God in the divine trilogy of Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh. Like Goddess Durga, he is also the symbol of the victory of good over evil and bestows his devotees with peace and abundance. The Hindi month of Shravan is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. The Maha Rudrabhishek Puja is a grand ceremony where offerings of water, milk, honey, sugar cane juice, gram pulse, kushodak (kusha and water) and mustard oil are made to Lord Shiva with the recitation of Sri Rudram. Sri Rudram is the oldest vedic hymn of various names of Lord Shiva and his various aspects are appeased by its recitation followed by the ‘yagya’ or the fire ritual. According to the Vedic scriptures, the Maha Rudraabhishek Puja is considered to be one of the greatest spiritual activities. People born under the Kark rashi or those experiencing the main or sub period of Saturn, Rahu or Ketu are advised to perform this puja as they will benefit greatly from it by reducing the ill effects of the planets and making them powerful and successful.
